Getting students to learn (and know how to use) the different number systems that are used in Computer Science can be a bit of a chore and so I have found it very useful to put some posters around the classroom to show the first 15 numbers in the three different number systems. This at least allows students to gain some familiarity with:
There is a poster for each number from 0 -15 to cover all the different Hexadecimal numbers 0 - F with matching Binary and Decimal Numbers as well (examples shown below)
Another way to get students more used to Binary and so see an everyday example of Binary (for the decimal numbers 1-12 anyway) is to put together a clock showing the binary numbers like the example on the right.
